DROPLET – Why So Simple?

When looking at the DROPLET, it appears obvious that we did not choose to build an extra-large trailer, full of the latest toys and gadgets. We kept it simple. Why so simple you may ask? Well, ask anyone who works in engineering, design, music, or architecture and they will tell you that there is nothing … Read more

Why Droplet is our favorite all-weather camping option

Dear fellow camper, before we jump into this post, let us begin with a few personal questions.

  • How many times have you (or your partner) cursed the weather for going South during a multi-day camping trip?
  • Did you ever abort a supposed dream camping adventure, because the entirety of your clothes and gear got soaked inside your tent (or tent trailer) during a storm?
  • Have you ever looked at those beautiful, shiny trailer campers parked next to you at the campsite, secretly wishing your small car could tow it, so it was you who got to afford sleeping inside it, as you silently pack up your drenched gear?

A (seemingly) tiny camper built for tall people

When seeing a Droplet trailer for the first time, few would imagine the inside to be very voluminous. Fewer would even think that it hides a perfectly sheltered kitchen space too. Yet, don’t be fooled by the first outside impression. The indoor space comfortably fits a plushy queen-sized mattress, and it is spacious enough for two, even if you are a taller person than average like its designer, Pascal Pillon (6ft4″).

Vancouver Island Road Trip – Nanaimo -> Nanoose Bay -> Bowser -> Victoria

DROPLET TRAILERS hit the road on April 13th to Vancouver Island, in order to check the local RV Show in Nanoose Bay & meet with prospective early adopters. Over 3 days, we traveled through 500+Km of scenic coastal drives and rain forest. Through those miles, we averaged 9L/100Km with our Toyota Matrix.  This place is a true Camper paradise. Dense forests, wild beaches, low population density, cheaper gas than the Lower mainland, and an array of charming coffee shops & antiques to visit. One known issue: it tends to rain frequently, and the coast gets a lot of wind. Where does one stay in order to maximize the camping fun, without getting soaked to the bone? Luckily, DROPLET is a well-insulated all-weatherproof travel pod. A true luxury for camping on the West Coast.

Vancouver to Cali and Back in under 4 Days.

March 2018 has been a REALLY exciting time for our Team at Droplet. On March 4th, we officially launched publicly our original Teardrop, Droplet-58. Serial production already began out of Langley BC, and the first orders of our compact campers will be delivered on time during May.

On March 8th, Our CEO Pascal Pillon took the road from Vancouver, BC to Redding, CA to meet up with as many interesting Droplet and teardrop camper fans as possible. He was back on Canadian soil on March 11th, late in the evening. That’s almost 2400km in 4 days. Not quite the exact definition of a relaxing camping trip. Running a start-up lean and having time to get everything done is always hard at first but thankfully, the essence of our business helps us save tremendous time and costs on travel and accommodation. That’s part of the joys of simple living: just pack your essentials and go. For those who wish for a mellow road trip Droplet can serve them well. But do keep in mind, this has little luxury element when you compare it with airplane rental. Initially, it may seem like a difficult trial, but things do get better over time.
